When Angie’s List rebranded to become Angi, they honored the membership plans for their legacy members (Green, Silver, and Gold tiers). Since the rebranding, they’ve also created the Angi Key membership plan.
The main benefit of being an Angi subscriber is discounted costs for services, concierge service from a home specialist who can help you with finding the right professionals for your job, and assistance from the Complaint Resolution Team if you’re unsatisfied with a contractor or service provider booked through Angi.
Some of these services are only available with certain membership plans, so be sure to ask about the specific benefits of your plan.
Angie’s List was founded in 1995 by William S. Oesterie and Angie Hicks. Hicks worked for Oesterie and struggled to find reliable construction contractors for his renovations. Hicks started a call-in service and publication called Columbus Neighbors that allowed homeowners to share their experiences of working with local businesses.
The idea grew and moved to the internet. At first, the service was only available to paid subscribers. In 2016, Angie’s List offered freemium service to allow consumers to book contractors and service providers even if they don’t pay a membership fee.
Today Angi is a resource that allows consumers to look up local business reviews in their area. While Angi was originally a means for consumers to find home improvement or repair contractors, they can now research a wide range of providers for home services, auto services, child care, pet care, home decorating, lawn care, and more.
Customers grade companies using a rating scale similar to a report card. They rate companies on their price, quality, responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism from A to F. The “grades” are averaged, and a score is given to each company. Reading reviews about the experiences other customers have had with a business lets you know what to expect for your own project.
Angie’s List is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is traded on the NASDAQ exchange.
