Entergy’s origins date back to November 13, 1913, when Harvey C. Couch founded the Arkansas Power Company. This company used sawdust to bring electricity to customers throughout rural Arkansas. Over the preceding years, Couch purchased power companies in a range of states. He eventually merged with his main competitor, Sidney Mitchel, in 1925. The Entergy name didn’t come about until 1989 after many years of power company mergers and acquisitions.
