About EPB

In 1935, the earliest incarnation of EPB came into existence due to an act the Tennessee legislature passed. In 1938, they finally started providing power to Riverside Substation, located in the city of Chattanooga by their High School. It began from genuinely meager beginnings, servicing only six homes in the Eastern part of Chattanooga before seeing rapid expansion in August of the same year, acquiring 42,000 customers as part of its purchase of the TEPCO system. 

It would take 29 years for them to raise their prices due to an increase in the cost of coal, and they’ve worked hard to help maintain their low rates in the years that followed. They work to keep the lead of the game in the energy industry, expanding to include new sources of electricity and investing in solar energy sources. Today, they proudly service thousands of customers nationwide with awards for reliable services.
