Hawaiian Airlines was formed in 1929 under the name Hui Mokulele Pili’aina, or Inter-island Airways. It continued to serve the islands through 1984, when it started taking the first steps to start servicing interocean routes to compete with another company performing the same service in the islands known as Mid Pacific Air. It all started with a single Douglas DC-8 flying to the South Pacific and, ultimately, other areas in the Pacific Ocean. It ran into some complications but continued to grow exceptionally well throughout the years. Today, it operates a fleet of 53 planes to 28 destinations internationally and is a popular airline for Pacific Travel.
