Mountain Hardwear was founded in 1993 in California. They sell high-end outdoor wear, backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, and gloves. Richmond, California’s Columbia Sportswear Company purchased Mountain Hardwear in 2003.
There are two retail locations. One is in Portland, Oregon, and the other is in Seattle, Washington. Mountain Hardwear is sold in outdoor stores across the country.
Mountain Hardwear’s first sponsored athlete, Ed Viesturs, who was the first American to climb all 14 8,000-meter peaks, developed much of Mountain Hardwear’s products. He no longer endorses Mountain Hardwear equipment after Columbia purchased the company in 2003. The company has around 125 employees.
The company sells men’s and women’s sports apparel. They also sell packs, sleeping bags, and tents.
