1975 saw the beginning of a legend, the birth of a company starting with no more than $300 and a garage. Well… $300, a garage, and a dog. While most people associate Oakley with their regular and prescription sunglasses or prescription eyewear, the company’s first product was a line of motorcycle grips known as “The Oakley Grip” made out of a material known as unobtanium (a trademarked material Jannard, the creator of Oakley, invented himself). Eventually, he released a pair of goggles, and then sunglasses, and ski goggles, and it just kind of exploded from there on out. Since then, they have been building an extensive line of activewear products that cover more than just vision, but also include a clothing line, watches, and other accessories in the Oakley store.
