In 1949, Paul Secon found several local barns full of pottery made by a local potter and took those resources to open a new business. While the company started out selling pottery of all kinds, it wouldn’t be long before that fact ceased to be true. From that point forward, the company would be known for its sale of beautiful housing items, eventually earning partnerships with beloved home decorating companies like Williams Sonoma and Mark & Graham. Pottery Barn Kids was formed under Pottery Barn in 1999 by two moms who were determined to provide beautiful pieces for their children with the quality customers expect from Pottery Barn, soon sparking another spin-off collection, Pottery Barn Teen.
