About Restoration Hardware
In Eureka, CA, in 1979, Stephen Gordon was hard at work doing a restoration on a Victorian Home when he encountered a problem. He was finding it nearly impossible to find fixtures that were both high-quality and affordable, simply unavailable. To solve this problem, he set about developing a highly tuned skill in merchandising, taking ten years to become a master of his trade, and then set out to get investors to help him begin Restoration Hardware. The company took off, and in 1998, it finally went public with 47 stores, expanding rapidly to 65 by the end of the year.
2005 saw Gordon leave his company and take over as CEO of the Sundance Catalog Company that had been started by Robert Redford. Restoration Hardware hasn’t stopped adapting to modern design, bringing a line of products for small spaces into production for 2012. It began its investor relations department in 2012, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under its new name, RH. Today, it stands as a respected provider of restoration products throughout the United States and Canada.
