Sears started in 1886 when Richard Warren Sears began a mail-order watch company. He would ultimately sell his business three years later for 3 million dollars, or $100,000 at the time. In 1992, he began the mail-order firm, for which he became famous with A.C. Roebuck. In the ensuing years, Sears would become a household name, ultimately shifting to brick-and-mortar storefronts in 1925 while maintaining a robust mail-order business. Sears would officially enter the auto business in 1998. Sears Auto was a central part of the services they offered but would ultimately see the closure of the last 15 stores in January of 2022.
