Consumer Value Stores began its life as part of the Melville Corporation. Melville changed its name to the CVS Corporation in 1996. However, CVS itself has existed since the 1960s under the Melville Corporation. In 1967 it would add the iconic pharmaceutical operations to its offerings. By 1970, there were more than 100 stores in the Northeast. By the ’80s, this number would grow to over 400, reaching over 4,000 by 1996, when the company became the CVS Corporation. The initial offering of SilverScript occurred in 2006 by CVS and would go on to acquire Aetna in 2017. Today, Silverscript is offered as part of the merged CVS/Aetna corporation.
