While this care used to be taken care of by military doctors in military facilities when they were available, with specialist care being provided by civilian doctors when necessary, there started to be a steadily occurring issue with the availability of care staff. As this started to become a prevalent concern, it became clear that something had to be done. That something wound up being the TRICARE SOUTH system, previously known as CHAMPUS.
Throughout its time it has undergone numerous changes to help provide the care they deserve conveniently and painlessly. This has required multiple contracts discussed with various medical providers with a final goal of providing a significant choice on the part of the policyholder in their choice of doctors and facilities.
