Whitney Bank got its start under the name Hancock County Bank in Mississippi, organized by a group of 19 people. The bank had $10,000 in operating capital and contained $8,277.41 in additional funds in deposits from its founders, who were all focused on taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the local trades that were booming, including wool, lumber, cotton, produce, and poultry. Three years later, another branch opened in Pearlington, with additional Mississippi-based offices following. The bank would continue to grow until it took possession of the Whitney Holding Corporation in 2011, along with its banking locations in Louisiana and Texas that operated under the name Whitney Bank. It’s now called Hancock Whitney Bank.
